I am nervous about the big international move my family is about to take. Mainly I'm nervous because living abroad is not something with which I have had any kind of experience. The closest thing to living in S.E. Asia was the 2-week family trip to Taiwan with the kids last year. I did enjoy the trip immensely, but I was traveling with family, visiting family, and of course, it was just for the duration of 2 weeks.
Since I've known that we would be moving and that we would not be shipping any of our things overseas, it seemed like a very good time to purge. It's a difficult thing for a pack-rat to part with things, but I must say that I feel good about clearing things out. I've had children's clothes that I've hung onto for years in case I have more kids. I also have lots of other things that I've hung onto "just in case". I think I've come to the conclusion that I just need to let go.
I took some books to Half Price Books. I've sold some things on Craigslist. I told the kids that we could use the money we've gotten from selling some of their things to buy new toys once we are in Indonesia. We've donated clothes, and furniture, and all sorts of things to family and to charity. I think I am almost done purging. The packers shouldn't have a hard time at all since we haven't left much for them to pack :)
I hope that Indonesia will be a really great experience for our family. After this though, I hope that we can stay put in one place for just a little while. Moving with kids every 12-18 months is difficult. I'd like to put down some roots and just call some place home...maybe someday.

New Adventure
Well, I haven't done very well posting to this blog, but rather than discontinue it, I've decided to write about a new upcoming adventure. I will soon be living in Jakarta, Indonesia. I think I will post about travel preparations for moving with small children to Indonesia and about the many experiences that my family and I will have while living abroad. I am nervous about the upcoming move yet also curious as to what life will be like living outside of the U.S.
