Today we took the kids to the 1st Indonesia Sand Sculpture Festival in Sentul City. Their website has information about tickets and times. We paid for 3 tickets at Rp. 50,000 each. Apparently kids under 6 are free. The Festival started Dec. 18 and runs until Jan. 28, 2012.
It was nice to get out of Jakarta for the day. The ride to Sentul City took us less than an hour from the Central Business District in Jakarta. We left at 9:30am and arrived before 10:30am. The festival opens at 11 am on weekdays.
There were two tents that housed the sand sculptures. The sculptures in one tent were all related to the “wonders of Indonesia.” The sculptures in the second tent were dedicated to the “wonders of the world.” There were also lots of fun things for kids to do like train rides, bumper cars, and a “Ferrish” Wheel…lol. DH paid Rp. 40,000 for about 10 tokens. Each activity took one token. There was also a nice playground, but it was really wet when we were there so the kids didn’t really play on it.
We went and had lunch at the food court which was very reasonably priced. The food was good with a decent selection. They had a variety of Indonesian food as well as french fries and club sandwiches for the less adventurous types. Our kids loved the chicken satay, fried noodles, and french fries.
We had a really great time at the festival! Check it out if you have some time and want to get out of Jakarta.
Once you are in Sentul City, you just follow the signs all the way to the festival.
Take a look at all the cool sculptures!
Then have some fun on the rides!
“Fancy” train ride…not just any train…lol.
The kids love the bumper cars!
Don’t forget the “Ferrish” Wheel ride…ha ha.

Tarzan D’Mighty Circus
We noticed a few weeks back that a large tent had gone up in the Bung Karno Stadium parking lot. It looked like a Circus Big Top and indeed that is what it is. Tonight we decided to take the kids to the circus. They were sold out of the cheap seats (Rp. 100,000) so we got the next least expensive seats (Rp. 200,000). Really, anywhere in the tent would have been fine to sit and get a good view since the tent is not all that big. With a BCA card, we were able to get a discount of 50% off a week day ticket. It would be 20% off of the weekend tickets using a BCA card. It cost us Rp. 500,000 for our family of 5 to see the show.
The show runs for 100 minutes. You can find more information about tickets and times and even about the performers at the website: http://www.tarzandmightycircus.com/.
We thoroughly enjoyed the show. I have only ever been to the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus which is huge so it was nice to go to a smaller show. The performers were amazing! There were all sorts of acts from tigers and elephants to trapeze artists and acrobats.
On week days, the show does not start until 7pm so the kids were getting a little tired by the end of the show. However, even my 3-year old enjoyed most of the show. She was clapping and saying how amazing the different acts were. The circus will be in town until January 8th. I think it is worth checking out!
Excited about going to the show. My oldest brought his binoculars but he didn’t need them.
